How To Get Rid of Carpet Beetles?

Are you looking for Beetles pest control? Well, it is obvious.

Carpet beetles can be quite oblivious. We don’t need to tell you why since you already know. But you cant let them go unchecked, can you? While you can always hire Control My Pest but we also want to equip you. This is why in this blog we shall be discussing methods to get rid of carpet beetles. With this said, lets get into it:

Vacuuming

If you want to remove Beetles, all you need is a vacuum. Yes, you read that right.

You use a vacuum around your house, every day, each day. Now, you just have to turn it towards the affected areas.

Vacuum doing what it does will suck up all the beetles, as well as their eggs and larvae. Since we are talking about the carpet Beetles, focus on the areas like carpets, rugs, furniture, and curtains.

You keep adding this to your regular cleaning routine, or you can just do it daily for best results. If the infestation is light, this shall do the job for you.

Steam cleaning

You must be thinking, why steam cleaning? Well, it is to do with the fact that beetles, as well as their larvae, and eggs cant stand high temperatures, or heat in general. In addition to this, excess moisture can also prove to be lethal.

Now, that you know this, the works become simple. Take a steam cleaner, and target all the areas which you did in the previous step i.e. the carpets, rugs, furniture, and curtains. Reason being that carpet beetles target these areas the most. You need to make sure that each of these areas gets the right amount of steam. In other words, just flood the area with a steam cleaner, and you wont need to worry about anything. But you might need to vacuum the area again, to remove all the dead bodies.

This is quite an effective method. So much so that even Beetles pest control services, extensively use this method. Therefore, you cant go wrong with Steam Cleaning.

Laundering pillows and clothing

Remember what we said about Beetles Hating high temperatures? The same principle applies here. Unlike the previous methods, here we are talking about the pillows and clothes. Reason being that one doesn’t typically vacuum or steam clean their pillows, and clothing. And one doesn’t need to.

Because there is an easier way. You can wash them. It is much easier and it gets the work done. But you have to do it the right way.

Take some hot water, and mix some detergent in it, like the usual. Now, add all the clothes, pillows, towels, linens, and all other things.

The hot water will remove beetles as well as their larvae. However, if the clothes are beyond saving, its better to put them in a plastic bag securely and throw them away. Keeping them will just further worsen the infestation.

Vinegar

If you have been following our blog for some time, or just any blog related to pest control, you must have noticed that Vinegar is quite useful in this work. Keeping up with its reputation, it can also be used to get rid of beetles. And its quite simple too.

All you need to do is, mix white or apple cider vinegar with water, and steer it well. When the mixture is ready, you are good to go. Now, you can put it in a sprayer or a dispenser, and apply it to all the area which has some dirt or food residue.

The reason being that this stuff attracts carpet beetles, which later end up causing even more problems. With this in mind, you need to target areas like shelves, drawers, hangers, window sills, and cupboards. Doing this will keep the problem to a minimum.

Boric acid

Boric acid is like the holy grail of the pest world. Only thing is that it doesn’t make you immortal, but kill all the pest that bother you. You will be surprised to learn that many of the pest sprays we buy from the market are mainly made of this acid.

In addition to this, pest control services in the USA also highly use this in their procedures. That’s why there is no reason, you shouldn’t use it. Which begs the question, how.

Well, its quite simple. Just Sprinkle it on the affected areas like carpets, rugs, and furniture. This might seem like much but it will kill all of the beetles that are infesting your house.

But make sure that you don’t touch the areas where you have applied the powder, for at least two hours. This is the time, required by boric acid to work.

Later on, you can use the vacuum to clean the surface, and your work is done. Make sure to securely throw away the bag.

Insecticide

One of the most effective, inexpensive, yet easy methods is using insecticide. This is no rocket science, everyone knows what it is. Buy a spray from your local area. It is readily available in nearby supermarkets, or home improvement stores.

Once you have your hands on this, use it to remove beetles from your house. Target areas like baseboards, under sinks, or in crevices. As these are the areas, where beetles may hide.

However, there is one thing that can be bit of a problem. It is that insecticide or pesticide sprays arent recommended to be used on carpets, and furniture. This is a huge drawback, but it is what it is.
